Weekly roundup

The 2nd race in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League took place at Wakefield on Sunday with 49 runners from the club taking part.

 

Both the club’s senior teams came 3rd in the team events. Niamh McLaughlin came 2nd in the Women’s race to Leeds City’s Charlotte Van Zelst. Sophie Robertson-Dover was 1st under 20 in 14th with Jodi Bemand 19th and Chrissie Dover running her 2nd race of the weekend to be 2nd vet 45 in 22nd. Mark Bolland-Cage led home the men’s team in 15th with Luke Haynes (25th), Cole McAndrew (28th), Will Hardy (29th), Jack Ford (36th) and Tim Pattison (36th) making up the team. In the age groups Tim Pattison was 2nd V35, Cole McAndrew was 3rd U20 and Jon Blake 3rd V60.

 

In the under 17 races Nina Hopkins led the team home in 6th with the club winning the team race with Louis Richardson’s 4th pace leading the team home for 2nd place. James Bastow and Marianne Lowson both came 2nd in the under 15 races as the club’s girls team came 1st and the boy’s team 3rd. The leading runners from the club in the under 13 races were Freddie Clayton (6th) and Scarlet Bycroft (9th) as the club’s girls team came 2nd and the boy’s team 4th. The leading runners from the club in the under 11 races were Lucas Leslie in 4th and Joesphine Lowson in 5th.

 

Chrissie Dover got another England vest in Saturday’s British Masters Cross Country International that was held at Roundhay Park in Leeds. Chrissie helped the England team to a gold medal in the competition between the home nations.

 

The latest race in the University of York 5k series took place on a very wet Friday evening. Despite the wet weather the runners still managed to turn out good times with over 20 runners under 16 minutes. There were two 5k road club records as new member Adam Davis ran a PB of 16.44 to take the vet 35 record and Jessica Robertson-Dover taking nearly a minute of her 5k road PB to run a under 20 club record with 17.21. First home for the club was Luke Haynes who narrowly missed his PB with 16.11. James Bastow (16.53) came just in front of Tom Davey (16.58) and Oscar Walker (17.00). Freddie Clayton ran 18.05 with Sophie Robertson-Dover making it two family PBs on the night with 18.31. John Lewis was another with a PB with 20.37 with Nick Lovett making a welcome appearance with 21.54.

 

The wet and windy weather continued into Saturday morning’s parkruns. Tim Pattison managed to beat the field and the rising River Wharfe to win the Ilkley Parkrun in 19.27 with James Wisbey winning the Heslington parkrun in 17.05. There was a junior age group win for Wilson Moisey-Smith and a veteran one for Steve Wright.  Leighton Hopkins and Thomas Douthwaite came 1st and 2nd in the York Junior Parkrun.
