Weekly roundup - 6 October

The club’s senior men’s team came a club record 22nd in the National Road Relays on Saturday. Angus McMillan ran another good opening leg to place 2nd in 15.47 over the 5.45k leg which was slightly shorter than in previous years due to Birmingham Council insisting that the out and back section got shortened because it was used by cars to enter the park. James Tucker (17.13) then ran a solid 2nd leg before 800m star Alex Botterill ran the 2nd fastest time from the club (16.58) on leg 3. Mark Bolland-Cage (15.37), Adam Bateman (17.41) and Jamie Walker (17.42) then ran similar times on the last three legs to bring the club home 22nd overall and 4th team from the north.

Jess Robertson-Dover and Chrissie Dover both took home medals in the Humberside 5k road running Championships in terrible conditions on Saturday at the Hull cycle circuit. Jess ran 18.15 to be first under 20 and Chrissie was first senior in 19.37.

Simon Bolland-Cage ran 2.35.19 in a very good marathon debut at Chester on Sunday. Simon’s time was just 14 seconds slower than the club marathon record from the City of York era.

Distance coach Ian Wilcock ran the hilly Morley 10k in 54.21 to be 4th vet 65.

Storm Amy made life difficult for parkrunners on Saturday morning. Luke Haynes went to Germany and came 1st at Frankfurt in 17.50. Will Torgeson (17.03 on the Knavesmire) and Lucy Davey (22.08 at Wetherby) both came 2nd with Isla Watson (22.49) coming 3rd at Heslington. There were junior age group wins for Oskar Walker and Bethany Ellerker with a veteran one for Jon Blake. Noah Stipetic, Lucas Leslie and Josh Reid were the first three runners across the line in the York Junior Parkrun.
