YES 4 York Open Sunday 31 August

Our final YES (York Event Series) meet of the year took place on Sunday 31 August,

2025.

Firstly, a huge thank you to our top class officials and volunteers who organise these

events and put in considerable time to ensure they run smoothly.

Despite very windy conditions we were treated to some excellent athletics. Some of

our younger athletes were getting in some essential practice ahead of the YDL

Lower and Upper Finals in Liverpool taking place the following weekend, whilst

others were having their final track and field meets of the outdoor season.

Crombie Wilkinson, our sponsors of the YES events this summer, provided the Prize

Money for our final innovative feature events of 2025 – the Long Jump Knock Out

competitions. After 4 rounds of trials athletes then went into nerve-tangling, tension-

ridden head-to-head jump off rounds with the money on the line in the final jump.

Despite being ranked only 2 nd going into the jump off rounds our eventual winner was

Sara Henderson (SW) from Skyrac who saved her best jump of the day and season

(4m 86cm) until the very last jump taking home the £100 cash prize. In 2 nd place was

Worksop’s multi-eventer Charlotte Ayton (U20W) who took home £30 after a final

leap of 4m 56cm, a little down on her highest ranked jump of the competition of 5m

08cm. In third place with a final jump of 4m 15cm (4m 44cm best on the day) and

£20 prize money was City of York AC’s Sophia Savkovic (U17W) just ahead of

Worksop’s Grace Walton (U17W).

The men’s event provided similar drama and again an upset as Blyth’s Alfie Ward

(U23M) produced his best jump of the day, 6m 82cm to edge out City of York’s

William Reid (U23M) to take home the 1st prize of £100. William can take

consolation though of producing the day’s longest jump in an earlier round – an

impressive 7m 01cm. In 3 rd place was Hull’s William Crowe (U20M) who edged out

Daniel Cluderay (U20M) from York.

Across the day we witnessed some outstanding talent, and certainly names to look

out for in the years ahead. Ella Mackintosh (U20W) from Kingston upon Hull

provided yet another example of her expertise in Hammer winning the competition

with 45m 42cm. North Shield’s Poly’s Eli Adams (U17M) soared to an impressive 1m

95cm in the high jump competition and on the track we had some eye-catching

performances from City of York’s Juliette Callau (U15G Hurdles), Barnsley’s Riley

Hall (U15B 300m) and Sheffield and Dearne’s Bella-Maria Minichiello (U13G 800m).

Our Disability athletes competed in the 100m, LJ, Shot and Turbo-Javelin, reiterating

our commitment to inclusive sport where all can participate in a fun environment.

Results will be available on Power of 10 rankings once verified, and we look forward

to hosting more exciting events in 2026.
